Dirk P. DeKoch, DDS
For over 40 years, Dr. Dirk DeKoch has practiced dentistry in the Alamo Heights area, with a focus on family, cosmetic, and restorative dentistry. Dr. DeKoch graduated from Texas A&M University and subsequently earned his Doctor of Dental Surgery degree from The University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio School of Dentistry in 1980.
Dr. Dirk DeKoch has been selected for inclusion on the Super Dentists ® list as published in Texas Monthly magazine, and on numerous occasions, he has been recognized by his peers for exceptional commitment to oral health. He has been the recipient of many other local and statewide recognitions.
Dr. DeKoch served over 22 years as a Director and volunteer at the San Antonio Christian Dental Clinic. Furthermore, he served as a dental consultant to the Alamo Heights School District for many years in an advisory capacity and by partnering with the school nurses to provide dental screenings on all K through 5th grade students. He has been involved in the San Antonio District Dental Society, serving as a member of the Board of Directors, and has earned the President’s Award for Outstanding Service. Dr. DeKoch has been a guest lecturer at the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio School of Dentistry.
Outside the dental office, Dr. Dirk DeKoch has continued to be actively involved with Texas A&M University through over a decade of service on the External Advisory and Development Council of the College of Science, a group selected by the Dean of the College to provide assistance, advice, and support from Aggies who are influential leaders in their scientific fields. After being invited to join this prestigious Council in 2004, Dr. DeKoch was honored to serve a two-year term as the Chairman of the EADC in 2009 and 2010.
Dr. DeKoch is an Elder at First Presbyterian Church San Antonio. He and his wife, Susan, have three grown children (two in dentistry, one in real estate), as well as a daughter-in-law (another dentist!) and a son-in-law (also in real estate). He and Susan also have three absolutely perfect grandsons as well as a perfectly adorable granddaughter. When he needs to recharge his batteries, he enjoys travel, hunting, and golf, but he is admittedly better at the first two than the last!
John M. DeKoch, DDS
Dr. John McCullough DeKoch grew up in San Antonio, Texas. He received his B.S. in Biology from Texas A&M University. He then attended the University of Texas Health Science Center School of Dentistry in San Antonio, receiving his Doctor of Dental Surgery degree and dental license in 2009.
“Dr. John”, as he is affectionately known around the dental office, is a member of the American Dental Association, the Texas Dental Association, and the San Antonio District Dental Society. He also serves on the Board of Directors of the San Antonio Christian Dental Clinic. Dr. John has consistently been recognized by both his peers and patients as a top dentist in San Antonio.
In addition to dentistry, Dr. John is actively involved in ranching. When not working, he enjoys spending time with his wife and their sons. Dr. John is a member of the Texas and Southwestern Cattle Raisers Association, the Texas Sheep and Goat Raisers Association, the Texas Wildlife Association, the Founder’s Council of the Texas Biomedical Research Institute, and the San Antonio German Club. He is also an active member of First Presbyterian Church.
Susie R. DeKoch, DDS
Dr. Susie DeKoch attended the University of Virginia in Charlottesville, VA, where she earned a B.S. in Biomedical Engineering. During her time at UVA, Dr. DeKoch was actively involved with Kluge Children's Rehab Hospital. She also organized and worked with a team of orthopedic surgeons and fellow biomedical engineers to design an innovative total hip replacement.
Dr. DeKoch's interests in healthcare and orthopedics led her to an orthopedic surgical sales position with Smith & Nephew in Houston and later in Austin. After several years in this position, Dr. DeKoch made the decision to return to school and pursue a career in dentistry. In 2016, she received her Doctor of Dental Surgery degree from the University of Texas Health Science Center School of Dentistry in San Antonio. Dr. DeKoch was awarded the Clinical Excellence Award by her clinical faculty, which is a testament to her dedication to helping people find health and wellness.
Dr. Susie DeKoch is a member of the American Dental Association, the Texas Dental Association, the San Antonio District Dental Society, and the Seattle Study Club. She is also a member of the Friends Board of the Children's Bereavement Center of South Texas, the San Antonio Christian Dental Clinic Advisory Council, the Founder’s Council of the Texas Biomedical Research Institute, and First Presbyterian Church.
Curtis D. Schmidt, DDS
Dr. Curtis D. Schmidt retired as COL Schmidt from the US Army after 27 years of service. He started his military career in 1996 as an infantryman and served multiple combat tours in Iraq and Afghanistan and completed over 5 years of foreign service. Dr. Schmidt has been involved in training surgical residents since 2009 and has held positions as adjunctive faculty at the University of Florida School of Dentistry, numerous hospital committees, Chief and Theatre Consultant for Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery in Iraq and Afghanistan, Chief of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery service at Tripler Army Medical Center and retired as Chairman of Oral & Maxillofacial surgery service at Brooke Army Medical Center.
Dr. Schmidt is trained in the full scope of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery, and has had extensive experience in maxillofacial trauma and reconstruction, cleft and craniofacial surgery, wisdom tooth removal, and comprehensive dental reconstruction with dental implant placement.
Dr. Schmidt completed 14 years of post-secondary education and holds board certifications for Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, Cleft and Craniofacial Surgery, and the National Dental Board of Anesthesia and an appointment as Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences Associate Professor.
